National Geographic Open Water
Langley Diving is proud to be the first dive centre in BC to offer exclusively the National Geographic Open Water course — encompassing not only the basics of the standard PADI Open Water course, but also additional skills and training that increase your ability to explore with detail, identify important underwater features and navigate with certainty.
The Open Water Course is PADI’s main entry level certifying course. Upon completion of the course, you will receive a certification card from PADI and National Geographic valid at dive stores and resorts worldwide. This card also counts towards your first specialty of the Master Scuba Diver rating.
The course itself is made up of 5 class and pool sessions and five ocean dives. We run our Open Water Course in a modular format with class and pool sessions evenings during the week, and ocean dives on the weekend.
You can complete your academics in our class room or online with PADI eLearning. Following this you will take your pool and Open Water sessions.
In addition to the training from our staff of PADI professionals, your course fee includes:
- All of the SCUBA* equipment (including regs., wet suits, BCD tanks, weights)
- All training materials including your Electronic Reacreational Dive Planner (eRDP)
- Your personal PADI training DVD for ongoing review
- The PADI National Geographic Log sheets and binder to record your dives and training
- National Geographic Diver Almanac and DVD
- Divers Alert Network Insurance for the duration of your course (pool and four Open Water dives)
Courses begin weekly. Click here for upcoming courses
Course Price: $390
*SCUBA gear does not include ‘personal gear’ — mask, snorkel, fins which will be required for the ocean dives. These may be purchased in the shop or rented for your ocean dives for $30. See store staff for details.
Students purchasing gear from Langley Diving during this or any course will benefit from a 10% discount off the posted list price for that equipment (sale prices excluded, offer applies to registered Langley Diving students only, and purchases must be made prior to submission of the course completion documentation following the final open water dive of the course).
OPEN WATER VARIATIONS:
OPEN WATER+ COURSE
Langley Diving promotes Nitrox learning and use. What is Nitrox? The air you breathe every day is partly Oxygen (21%) and mostly Nitrogen (79%). Nitrox, or rather Enriched Air Nitrox, is a breathing gas which replaces some of the Nitrogen in the air you breathe at depth with a quantity of Oxygen.
If you take the course with your Open Water program Langley Diving is offering an introductory price of $490.00 for combined Open Water and Nitrox Course**.
DRY SUIT TRAINING+ COURSE
Langley Diving also offers the option of using a dry suit instead of a wetsuit for your two days of ocean diving in addition to earning your Dry Suit Specialty certification. The upgrade cost includes instruction on how to properly care for and use the suit and one extra pool session. Once Dry Suit certified, you will be able to rent dry suits for future diving.
Upgrade Price: $150.00 (in addition to our regular course prices) for all five ocean dives which includes your Specialty Certification**.
TROPICAL REFERRALS
Designed for those divers who wish to complete their class and pool sessions here, but prefer to do their ocean dives in a warmer climate. Because the PADI system is taught worldwide, you can complete your training anywhere in the world as long as it’s done through a PADI Certified Instructor. The course includes the first five class and pool sessions, as well as all the training materials and SCUBA equipment rentals (Please note that you will have to pay extra for the completion of your course at whatever rates the receiving resort has set).
Referral Course Price: $280
Alternately, if you are looking to complete your Open Water Certification here (you have been referred from a different PADI Instructor) and wish to complete your ocean dives, we can do that too! Courses are run in conjunction with the Open Water Course.
** Only one specialty may be added to an Open Water course at a time.
