Buoyancy Compensator
Buoyancy, buoyancy, buoyancy! It's the one skill you'll practice every time you get in the water.
A good, well fitting BC can help you.
You'll find there are a couple different styles of BCs that help position you in the water.
Back Inflate
This style BC has its air cell completely behind you. This means that while swimming, you're essentially hanging from it. It also means you don't have as much "bulk" in front of you.
Jacket Inflate
This BC wraps the air cell around you. While most of the air is still behind you, some of it will find it's way to your front. This is perfect for resting comfortably at the surface as it will keep you upright.
The style of BC you ultimately go with will depend on the style of diving you prefer. Langley Diving carries both styles in several brands and even has a few of each in its rental fleet—so you can give them a test dive before you buy.
